Rising
sea levels and the melting of the polar ice caps is no longer
a theory or something
that may happen in our future, or our children's future. It's
happening today and we're
seeing the results in real time as islands are inundated by
increasingly intense storm
surges and more impactful flooding from tsunamis. Low-lying
cities are experiencing
the breaching of seawalls and the resulting billions in flood
damages as they are ravaged
by hurricanes that have become more intense in warming oceans.
Humans have historically
been successful at adapting to challenging environments, but
the changes and challenges
have rarely been on such a global scale, and have never been
so self-inflicted.
