We stand
at the crossroads of one of the most historical and critical periods
of time for our environment and for
humanity. The impact that people have had upon our planet now has
a name and it's now known as the anthropocene.
The impact man has inflicted upon our natural environment has lead
to the extinction of thousands of species, the
spoiling of our waters with plastic pollution, acidification, overfishing,
and even sound pollution that affects large
sea mammals and other creatures. Our top soil is diminished, climate
change is melting our glaciers and permafrost,
and resulting in powerful storms and sea level rises that have the
potential to destroy our coastal communities and
the vulnerable coastal habitats that are already fragmented by development
and impacted by pollution.
This piece of art is the imagined eye of a disfigured and contorted
Nature staring accusedly back at humanity for our
ignorance, greed and carelessness toward the earth that sustains
us all. Major political, social, and economic changes
are urgently needed to stem the damage we've inflicted upon our
planet, and to give us hope for the future.
