The
value of good, hard work has been diminished in modern societies.
The notion
that physical labor should be reserved for "other" people
has created a social class
with limited access to healthcare, affordable homes, and education.
As automation
and the ease of hiring contractors becomes the norm, the most
laborious task that
many professional workers might take part in is using their phone
and ordering
services online. There is a nobility of working hard with one's
hands that should be
respected, appreciated, and rewarded with enough compensation
to pay for a family's
food, healthcare, shelter, and the means of surviving in a capitalist
economy that
increasingly values technology and automation, yet depends to
some extent on what
is considered "menial" labor.
